Big Bass Splash Slot Review

Big Bass Splash reviewed: Pragmatic Play's fishing slot, the fish values, how the fisherman collects them, the pre-round modifiers and its RTP at MrSuperPlay.

A monster truck ploughing through the shallows, a rod, a tackle box, a dragonfly and a fisherman in a cowboy hat who arrives with the free spins. Big Bass Splash is one of Pragmatic Play's Big Bass fishing slots, and like the rest of the family it turns on him: every fish on the reels carries a value, and it only pays when he lands to reel it in.

What sets this one apart is what happens before the round. The game can add up to five modifiers to it first, and a few tricks can change a spin once the round is running.

Big Bass Splash in numbers

  • Studio: Pragmatic Play
  • Layout: five reels, three rows, 10 lines read from the left
  • RTP at MrSuperPlay: 92.05%
  • Top prize: 5,000× your bet, where a free spins round stops
  • Features: fish that carry values up to 5,000×, a fisherman Wild (a symbol that stands in for the others) who collects them, up to five modifiers before the free spins, retriggers with rising multipliers

What each symbol pays

The help screen shows each prize as an amount at your current bet, so the figures move when you change your stake. The proportions don't. Taking three letters on a line as 1:

Symbol 2 on a line 3 on a line 4 on a line 5 on a line
Monster truck 2.5 25 100 1,000
Fishing rod – 15 75 500
Dragonfly – 10 50 250
Tackle box – 10 50 250
Fish – 5 25 100
A, K – 1 12.5 50
Q, J, 10 – 1 5 25

The truck is the only symbol that pays for two in a row. Lines pay from the leftmost reel on neighbouring reels, only the highest prize on each line is paid, and wins on different lines are added together.

The fish and their values

The fish are the symbol to watch. On every spin, each one takes a random value of 2×, 5×, 10×, 15×, 20×, 25×, 50×, 100×, 200×, 500×, 1,666×, 2,500× or 5,000× your total bet, shown on the fish itself. That value can only be won in the free spins; in the ordinary spins, the base game, the fish pay as an ordinary symbol.

Getting to the free spins

The scatter is the bass leaping out of the water, and unlike the other symbols it doesn't need to line up. Three anywhere on the reels start 10 free spins, four start 15 and five start 20. Land two without a third and the game may step in: either the reels holding the scatters drop one position while the others spin again, or a hook pulls a reel up to reveal another scatter.

Then, before the first free spin, between none and five modifiers are picked at random for the round:

  • More fish: extra fish on the reels.
  • More fishermen: extra Wilds on the reels.
  • More dynamite, hooks and bazookas: those tricks, explained below, come up more often.
  • Start from level 2: the round begins at the second level, where the fish pay double.
  • +2 spins: two extra free spins at the start, and two extra on every retrigger.

Free spins, and the fisherman

In the round the fisherman appears on every reel. He's the Wild, standing in for every symbol except the scatter, and each time he lands he collects the value of every fish on the screen.

Every fisherman you land is counted until the round ends, and every fourth one retriggers it: 10 more free spins, and the fish he collects are multiplied by 2× at the second level, 3× at the third and 10× at the fourth. The new spins are played after the ones you already have, and the multiplier applies to them. After the fourth level, the round can't be extended any further.

Three tricks can come into play at the end of a free spin. Fishermen but no fish? Dynamite can throw fish onto the reels, or a bazooka can change every symbol except the fishermen. Fish but no fisherman? A hook can pull a reel up to bring one onto the screen.

If a round reaches 5,000 times your bet, it stops there and pays out, and any spins still to come are lost.

Where to go after Big Bass Splash

Bigger Bass Splash and Big Bass Splash 1000 build on the same idea, and Big Bass Bonanza is where the family started. If fishing's your thing, Red Tiger's Trophy Fish and Wazdan's Fisherman's Luck take the rod somewhere else. See them all on the games page.

Frequently asked questions

What RTP does Big Bass Splash have at MrSuperPlay?

92.05%. That's the return to player, the share of all stakes the game pays back over a very long run of spins. Pragmatic Play's own help screen quotes 96.71%, which is another of the settings casinos can choose.

How do you trigger the free spins in Big Bass Splash?

Land at least three scatters, the leaping bass. A scatter counts wherever it lands, not just along a line. Three give you 10 free spins, four give 15 and five give 20.

What are the modifiers before the free spins?

Up to five of them can be picked at random before a round starts: more fish, more fishermen, more dynamite, hooks and bazookas, a start from the second level, and two extra spins.

What is the most Big Bass Splash can pay?

5,000 times your bet. A free spins round that gets there ends on the spot, pays the 5,000×, and the remaining spins are lost.
